2022 From the Secretary

This year has been a challenging year for everyone as we had to deal with things we have
never experienced, but we have made it through and our active membership has steadily
climbed, which shows we are achieving what we set out to do two years ago.

To engage with as many old boys as possible increase our numbers and make it accessible
and fun.

2022 has been a challenging year for all Members and we have seen the passing of Old Boys
young and old and our list shifts each time this occurs.

To Barrie Johnson (past Secretary) who maintain’s the obituaries for the association and
updates the database as required. We are all extremely grateful for all your ongoing
assistance and guidance as we go into a time of change that is engaging with Old Boys at a
greater level than the past.

The use of database has become a major asset that allows the association to connect and
one which we have built on going forward for the good of the association.

The AGM was problematic with the Covid causing several key persons being absent, myself included. However Barrie stepped in and conducted the AGM on my behalf. Again we stand on the shoulders of those who went before with traditions and history
.

We now have a website which has become a major way of connecting with Old Boys young
and old. Something that is not only exciting but a major asset which is creating an easily
accessed information base and in time a point of contact for all old boys.

---------------------------------------

This year the introduction by Andrew Dorgan one of our Executive and Al Drayton old boy
and school to get a safe mentoring scheme for the boys is an exceptional achievement.
This will benefit Old Boys as well as school for years to come. Well done guys.

Our wandering branch liaison man John Clark continues to do an amazing job for the
association catching up with branches and people across the country, keeping the faith and
spreading the word. Johns humour and good sense are much appreciated. John is truly a
rare person today asks for nothing and gives a lot, I personally can’t thank you enough.

----------------------------------

This AGM we appointed new members to the exec and later during the year it was
announced for Vic President, Dave Hewett. David will take the seat from Simon at the next AGM and comes with a very steady hand and is already showing his leadership skills.

For this year we started with the cloud of Covid and had to make do with small exec
meeting attendance and challenges that have seen issues with communication and
newsletters but we instead focused on what was achievable and planned for 2023.

The website was achieved in this time with much thanks to Sam Cherry who pushed NV
Interactive (old boys) and got the site up and running ready for 2023 and beyond, Thank you
Sam.

This allows the association to link and communicate less intrusively and allow casual linking
by old boys and to publicise events and a greater communication platform with regularity to engage with as many old boys as we can.

I would also like to thank Simon Carter our President who has committed to the last two
years and done an exceptional job promoting and leading the association over some very
trying times.

Simon we all appreciate your efforts and the way your experience has benefited the
association and continues to do so.

Just by being you, you promote the association in everyday, through new perspective to the
role and maintained a direction that is achieving wonderful things.

For the year ahead, 2023 the focus is on an annual event (black tie) Annual Awards Dinner
which will occur on Founders Week when all the four annual awards will be awarded. This will also be one of our major fundraising events for the association to assist in the
running and maintaining of the association and its obligations.

The committee of Simon Carter, Kane Finnie, David Hewett and Barrie Johnson are setting
up a great event. Something we should all be attending.

For me personally I am passionate about the future of the CBHS Old Boys Association, what
we achieve and what we leave behind for those who will follow us.

My personal want is for the Association to be strong in every way.

Altiora Peto.

Christopher J Carthy ( Dominion Secretary CBHSOB Association)
